[...] PS- The picture that brought you into this article is one of Dave Penhall playing QB for Cal vs. Stanford in 1970. Dave led the Cal Bears to an upset victory over the eventual Heisman trophy winner Jim Plunkett and his Stanford Cardinals. Here is a picture of Dave with the Cal rugby team that traveled overseas to play teams from Australia and New Zealand in the 70s. You can read about it here: [...]

Great reminder. I think this is critical in ensuring that we are not only connected to the larger church's mission, but critical to ensuring we do not end up wanting healthy marriages for their own sake. Everything God redeems, he does so for a purpose beyond thing being redeemed. We want healthy marriages to impact our world not just so couples get along better!

Are you sure it was Scherff...in 1962-63. Your note reminded me that his name indeed was not Schultz...but something like Schuett. I guess i could check my old yearbook

Eric,

I just finished the book a couple of weeks ago myself. I cannot tell you how jazzed I am about what God is putting on my heart. I would love to get together with you again...this time I will turn my phone off! I am going to Haiti on the 15th of March... not sure what the heck I am actually doing but God continues to show me the crumbs and I am absolutly willing to follow!

Good work here....
Wes

Hey Eric. Always enjoy your creative thoughts and connections you make. Matt was the same way--wanted to be somewhere where he was kicking down doors and not babysitting. We are glad to have him back after his deployment..same unit as Jeff I believe. Blessings in 2012.

Eric, thanks for this post on job creation. Consider this: after 1 trillion dollars spent in various forms of aid for Africa, that continent is little better off today than it was 40 years ago. Africa (and the rest of the developing world) needs jobs, not aid. Thankfully there is something we can do: partner with and invest in sustainable businesses in the developing world. Many entrepreneurs are primed for strategy help and equity investments that could grow businesses and create jobs. Many faith-oriented business execs could leverage years of experience to help businesses grow in underserved places. By rooting this work in faith-communities, the Church is positioned to offer powerful solutions to pressing issues, and expand her influence as a result. Here is the advertisement: Project Garden is a growing network of business leaders and a platform designed to accelerate job creation. Send me an email for more information.
